Stage 8: Bortala – Urumqui
Rad connection: 513.64 km – Special Stage: 256.93 km – Road connection: 134.78 km – Total: 905.35 km

China’s development grows fast and competitors were able to appreciate its new infrastructure, high ways and cities that were built through the 513 km of road connection before launching the timed section.
Today’s special stage started in a technical track to continue through an off road landscape on the sand, before arriving to very fast tracks. A sandy terrain that even had some fesh-fesh with its vegetation composed the scenario for Stage 8.

ERIC MOZAS/RAFAEL TORNABELL #135 – 34th of the Stage in 4h59’33 – 22nd at the overall provisional classification in 19h39’18: “It was a beautiful special stage, but with lots of fesh-fesh during the last 20 km. Unfortunately, we lost time after a puncture. There was only sand today, and the terrain was totally different than what we had in Kazakhstan. The temperatures also went up to 38 Celsius degrees. It was straining, but I am quite happy to be here… I think lots of car will only join the bivouac after night falls.”
Tomorrow, a day of dunes will be at the menu prior joining the bivouac in Hami, after 719 km with a timed section of 384.4 km.
